Provably-Fair: Trading Algorithm Details

Each 24-hour trading round uses a predetermined set of prices generated from a randomly drawn seed. This seed is revealed at the end of the round, allowing anyone to verify that the algorithm was followed as described and that no prices were altered after trading began. Importantly, prices cannot be adjusted based on user bets.

Learn More

  • Seed Generation: At the start of each trading round (00:00 UTC), a random 32-byte seed is selected for each city.
  • Price Calculation: Prices are determined by combining this seed with an integer tick counter that increments from 0.
  • Hashing Process:
    • The seed is encoded as a 64-character lowercase hexadecimal string.
    • This string is concatenated with the tick counter's value.
    • The concatenated string is hashed using the SHA-256 algorithm (256-bit digest).
  • Price Randomization & Reproducibility:
    • The cryptographic hash function ensures that price movements are random and unpredictable before the seed is revealed, yet fully verifiable afterward.
    • The first 8 bytes of the hash are converted into an unsigned 64-bit integer using little-endian encoding.
    • This integer is mapped to a uniformly distributed floating-point number in the unit range.
  • Market Price Adjustment:
    • The floating-point value is transformed into a normally distributed return using the inverse cumulative distribution function.
    • The standard deviation for this transformation is based on the market’s tick volatility.
  • Volatility Levels
    • The market’s tick volatility varies by city, with values of 0.1%, 0.2%, 0.4%, or 0.8%, depending on city characteristics
